The Applications Scientist will be responsible for major contributions to the Business Development team that will take this game-changing technology platform from prototype to product and ultimately commercialization.

You: A seasoned liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC/MS) method developer with a broad knowledge of applications related to the analysis of biologically relevant molecules who is comfortable working in a small company setting.

Responsibilities

  • The scientist will work in support of our Business & Product Development team and alongside current Application Scientists.
  • He/she will be tasked with increasing the breadth and quality of analyses based SLIM technology.
  • Design and create presentations, use cases, user stories, technical notes, application notes, etc. based on data generated in-house to support MOBILion’s penetration in the Life Science market space.
  • Coordinate with the Product Manager, Business Development Lead, applications team and stakeholders to create innovative and effective data sets and applications.
  • Learn to operate SLIM instrumentation on multiple mass spectrometry platforms to generate meaningful and valuable data sets.
  • Process and interpret ion mobility and mass spectrometry data.
  • Work with software developers to provide user requirements for GUIs, method algorithms, and data analysis programs.
  • Support development/troubleshooting of prototype instruments through data generation.
  • Collaborate with industry partners to assess their application needs, how it can be positively impacted by SLIM instrumentation and generate compelling data to assist MOBILion with proof of concept initiatives on Pharmaceutical, Academic and Clinical applications.
  • Run and assist with demo and application days held at MOBILion’s facility.
  • Attend and present at industry conferences to help create SLIM advocates.
  • Working within an interdisciplinary team of engineering, applications development, and operational employees to achieve strategic, operational, and technical objectives in a manner that ensures the product performance meet customer needs.
  • Adhere to policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure compliance with regulatory and industry standards and practices.
  • Communicate effectively with Product Managers, Engineers, Scientists, and other business personnel.
  • Training of the various personnel both internal and external.
  • Continual literature review for relevant applications, competitive information and peer-reviewed journal articles.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelors in analytical chemistry, chemistry, biology, or engineering. An advanced degree in these or related disciplines is a plus.
  • 4+ years of experience using mass spectrometry for pharmaceutical, academic or clinical analyses.
  • Expertise in sample preparation (PPT, LLE, & SPE), liquid chromatography (HPLC & UHPLC), and mass spectrometry (triple quadrupole & high resolution) method development. Ion mobility method development is a plus.
  • Self-starter, with a hands-on, roll-up-the-sleeves mentality, and the ability to define and execute application development on time.
  • He/she must possess an intellectual curiosity, a creative mind, and be active in the company by observing and asking questions to learn.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with the technical team when needed.
  • Exceptional critical thinking skills; ability to decompose complex problems, prioritize issues, and implement sensible solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to speak, present and write clearly and accurately, particularly as it relates to technical concepts.
  • Ability to work independently in the laboratory, including: experiment design, sample preparation, operation of scientific equipment, and data interpretation.

Instrument Systems Engineer

You: A creative, hands on problem solver with skill and experience designing and building mass spectrometry systems who is comfortable working in a small company setting.

Responsibilities

  • Learn SLIM technology and how to operate SLIM instruments.
  • Develop system requirements based on customer centric design inputs.
  • Develop the overall design and system architecture for SLIM ion mobility instrumentation.
  • Perform engineering analysis as required on parts and subsystems to support key design decisions.
  • Perform iterative risk analysis during the development process to identify gaps and drive the engineering design forward.
  • Create detailed test plans and procedures to demonstrate that system requirements are satisfied.
  • Lead product verification testing.
  • Conduct comprehensive technical design reviews at system or subsystem levels.
  • Develop and utilize a professional, technical, and scientific network to identify possible manufacturing, technical, and supply chain partners.
  • Work within an interdisciplinary team of engineering, applications development, and operational employees to achieve strategic, operational, and technical objectives in a manner that ensures the product performance meets customer needs.
  • Understand and support implementation of MOBILion’s strategic initiatives.

  • Generate, review, and approve controlled documentation for all phases of development.
  • Identify gaps in design proposals and technical capabilities.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • At least 8-10 years of experience in a product development or manufacturing role in the mass spectrometry or related instrumentation market.
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, physics, engineering, or related. An advanced degree in these or related disciplines is a plus.
  • Demonstrated success in developing technical, operational, or manufacturing systems and strategies in the instrumentation market.
  • Self-starter, with a hands-on, roll-up-the-sleeves mentality, and the ability to define and execute project objectives and priorities on time and on budget.
  • He/she must have an intellectual curiosity and be active in the company by observing and asking questions.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, small company environment.

Mechanical Engineer

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for developing detailed designs for the parts and assemblies that make up the SLIM instrument.

You: A mechanically inclined problem solver with skill and experience designing, building, and testing mechanical and/or electromechanical parts and devices who is comfortable working in a small company setting.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Instrument Systems Engineer to design, build, and test the mechanical components of SLIM instrumentation.
  • Design machined, sheet metal, and injection molded parts and work with suppliers to manufacture them.

  • Perform initial and ongoing design reviews.

Responsibilities

  • Take a long-term strategic approach to design and development considering the product roadmap; develop product specifications with attention to system integration and feasibility.
  • Define all aspects of development from appropriate technology and workflow to coding standards; clearly communicate all concepts and guidelines to development team and external software vendors.
  • Develop and implement a software development life-cycle: including requirements, coding, testing, deployment, and performance tuning.
  • Help to build the software team and allocate work to other engineers and/or outside design firms.
  • Coordinate with the product development engineering team and stakeholders to create innovative and effective solutions.
  • Develop software functional and non-functional requirements in concert with the product development team based on customer input that enable customers to easily control the instrument and analyze their data.
