Shining a High-Resolution Ion Mobility Light on PFAS Dark Matter for Forensic Fingerprinting
Thomas Lubinsky, Frederick G. Strathmann
The article proposes using forensic fingerprint analysis and high-resolution ion mobility to detect Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), which have become a global contaminant. These techniques can provide a more comprehensive understanding of PFAS sources, pathways, and fates in the environment. The need for research and innovative analytical techniques is emphasized to understand the undetected, unreported, and unregulated PFAS that have the potential to silently impact environmental and human health.
