Abstract

Temporal separation of interfering compounds, whether isomers, isobars, or unrelated matrix interferences, is the most effective way to reduce chimeric spectra and provide higher confidence in unknown compound identifications.Because the isomers share the same molecular weight, use of a quadrupole or high resolving power mass spectrometry alone will not sufficiently separate the isomeric precursors. The MOBIE system uses high-resolution ion mobility to temporally separate ions based on their size, shape, and charge providing a unique, rapid, and powerful orthogonality to conventional measurements made with LC-MS.
